To mark the 70th anniversary of the Italian Republic, the Consulate General of Italy in Guangzhou held a reception at the Four Seasons Hotel in Guangzhou on June 2, 2016.

Over 200 guests attended the reception, including Mr. Xu Ruisheng, Vice Governor of Guangdong, Ms. Laura Egoli, Consul General of Italy in Guangzhou, and representatives from the government bodies, Consulates General in Guangzhou, Italian communities in Guangdong, enterprises and media.

Italy and Guangdong have been maintaining friendly cooperative relations for a long time. “Thanks to the sound Sino-Italian relations, Guangdong and Italy, complementing each other’s advantages in economy and trade, cultural exchanges, SME enterprises, educational training and sports, have enjoyed productive cooperation,” said Mr. Xu Ruisheng.

Last month, a four-member Chinese police team, with two of them from Guangdong, collaborated with police officers from Italy in two joint patrols in Rome and Milan. Pang Bo, head of the Chinese police team from Guangzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau, was specially introduced to the guests by Mr. Xu Ruisheng at the reception and received a big round of applause.

Before that, Guangdong had already wowed Italy and the world by staging its tradition and achievement in agriculture, grain and food, good investment environment, profound cultural deposits and abundant tourism resources through the Guangdong Week at Expo Milano from October 15 to 19, 2015. The Guangdong-Italy Economy and Trade Exchange Conferencewas also held in Milan on October 15, 2015 to promote cooperation between enterprises in Guangdong and Italy.

On October 14, 2015, Guangdong - Emilia-Romagna Trade Cooperation Fairwas held in Bologna, Italy to provide investment and trade opportunities for above 160 enterprise delegates from the fields of kitchen, food, wine-brewing, pottery and furniture, etc. Noteworthily, Guangdong and Emilia-Romagna Region officially established twinning relationshipon May 11th, 2015.

In the past year, Italy and Guangdong worked closely in cultural exchanges, educational training, sports and other aspects. Such events include World Italian Language Week, Triennale Exhibition road show, Urban Design Day, football cooperation between Club Italia Master and Nan’ao Sports, Guangzhou-Wuhan-Rome air route, new Italian visa center in Shenzhen, etc.

As the Belt and Road Initiative is setting off, it offers favorable opportunities to the common development of China and Italy. With the solid foundation for cooperation and exchange, Italy and Guangdong are bound to a better cooperative relation.

“Looking onwards to the future, the great project of a New Silk Road opens up other possibilities for further exchanges between Italy and China, and with Guangdong in particular,” said Ms. Laura Egoli.

“Consulates General in Guangzhou including the Italian Consulate General are welcome to make it into full play their role of bridges and links, so as to promote mutual beneficial cooperation between Guangdong and the rest of the world for shared dividends of economic development,” said Mr. Xu Ruisheng.
